Date-Nut Bread
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of boiling water
1 1/4 cups of sugar
1 tablespoon of butter
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda
A pinch of salt
2 1/4 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 egg
1 cup of chopped dates
1 cup of chopped walnuts
Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Grease a long loaf pan for the bread.

In a large bowl, combine the boiling water with sugar, butter, dates and nuts. Allow to cool.

Add the egg and vanilla extract into the mixture.

Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
-
Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture little by little.

Pour the bread batter into the long loaf pan.

Bake the loaf for approximately 40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.

Allow the loaf to cool for 15 minutes before removing it from the pan, and cool completely on a a wire rack.

Slice and enjoy!

Recipe can be easily doubled if necessary.

When adding the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, you can use either of the following methods:
-
You can use your hands to add the dry mixture to the wet mixture little by little.

You can sift the pre-sifted dry mixture into the wet mixture.
Serving Suggestions:
Date-Nut Bread is best served warm.
It is delicious to have a slice plain and hot out of the oven . . .
But if desired, top a warm slice of Date-Nut Bread with butter or a layer of cream cheese - it is delectable!
