Gallo Pinto means “spotted rooster” in Spanish, due to the speckled or spotted look that results from the mix of rice and beans. Gallo Pinto is also eaten in Costa Rica, and is often disputed on if it originated there or in Nicaragua.Either way, it is a staple and is a very simple recipe. It consists of rice, kidney beans, seasonings, garlic, and red peppers. All you have to do is cook the beans and rice, saute the vegetables, combine them, and you have the delicious Gallo Pinto!
